Soul Stones - Complete Guide

Guide noticeThis page contains gameplay and story spoilers and may describe mature systems.

The eight Soul Stones are among the rarest and most powerful key items in Chronoromancer. Each is a permanent key item, and each stone provides a passive effect that scales with its stone level. Seven are found through the Mining minigame; Phantom Stone has its own acquisition path.

Acquiring a stone is only the beginning. Stones start at Level 1 when first acquired, then grow through the Intimate Bonding action where a configured NPC bond resonates with a specific stone.

What Are Soul Stones

Soul Stones are rare permanent key items. Most are hidden in the rubble of the mining minigame; Phantom Stone is separate from that drop pool. Once you have one, it stays in your key items list for the rest of the game. Each stone provides a passive effect that scales with its level, which starts at 1 the moment you first acquire it.

The eight stones are:

  • Queenstone - increases maximum Health
  • Sword Stone - sharpens basic attacks and Quick Attack
  • Brute Stone - empowers Stormslash and Power Strike
  • Balance Stone - improves your combat defense roll
  • Elemental Stone - amplifies Fire Magic and Ice Magic
  • Twilight Stone - amplifies Light Magic and Dark Magic
  • Aether Stone - increases maximum Energy and maximum Calm
  • Phantom Stone - strengthens Assassinate follow-up hits and improves Thieves Gloves

There is currently no level cap in the shared stone-level system.

Acquiring The Stones

Seven Soul Stones can drop from the Mining minigame at the Mountain Foothills (Medieval era, Village Outskirts). Phantom Stone is not part of the mining drop pool. The mining stones are extremely rare: each qualifying tile spawn slot has only about a 0.013% chance of becoming a key stone, and the game further restricts spawning so that:

  • Only one key stone can spawn per mining session. Once any stone appears, no other stone can be drawn until you exit and re-enter the minigame.
  • Stones you already own are filtered out forever. You will never see a duplicate.
  • If you own all seven mining stones, no more key stones will spawn.
  • After 60 successful clicks in one mining session, the pity system can force either an unowned key stone or an iridescent tile.

Most Soul Stones have 200 HP. Queenstone and Aether Stone have 400 HP. Iron pickaxes will chip at them slowly, copper does twice the damage, and diamond pickaxes are by far the most efficient because of their 5 damage and free adjacent bonus hit.

Power-up cascades hit multi-hit tiles for 15 damage per blast, so a well-timed bomb, fireblock, or magic cube can make a stone much easier to finish.

Every stone you acquire starts at Level 1 and is added to your inventory immediately, with a celebratory chime.

The Eight Stones And Their Effects

Each stone provides a passive bonus that scales linearly with its level. The bonuses apply automatically; there is nothing to equip.

Queenstone

Effect: +1 maximum Health per level.

Queenstone is a durability stone. Every level adds another point to maximum health, permanently.

Sword Stone

Effect: +1 damage per level on Attack and Quick Attack.

Sword Stone improves the player's most direct weapon actions. It does not affect heavier skill attacks like Power Strike or Stormslash.

Brute Stone

Effect: +1 damage per level on Stormslash and Power Strike.

Brute Stone scales the heavy melee skills that already want commitment and setup.

Balance Stone

Effect: Adds an alternating bonus to the player's tier defense roll.

The Balance Stone modifies the minimum and maximum of the defense roll as it levels:

Level Min Bonus Max Bonus
1 +1 +0
2 +1 +1
3 +2 +1
4 +2 +2
5 +3 +2
6 +3 +3

Odd levels improve the worst-case defense roll first. Even levels catch the best-case roll up.

Elemental Stone

Effect: +1 damage per level on Fire Magic and Ice Magic.

Elemental Stone is the core offensive stone for fire and ice spell users.

Twilight Stone

Effect: +1 damage per level on Light Magic and Dark Magic.

Twilight Stone mirrors the Elemental Stone pattern, but for the light/dark spell pair.

Aether Stone

Effect: +1 maximum Energy and +1 maximum Calm per level.

Aether Stone mirrors Queenstone's stat-growth role, but it strengthens the player's action economy and mental reserve rather than health.

Phantom Stone

Effect: +1 damage per level on extra hits when Assassinate triggers from Quick Attack. Also increases Thieves Gloves effectiveness by +0.1% per level.

Phantom Stone is the hidden-strike stone. It rewards the moment a quiet attack turns into a lethal chain, and it makes the guild's gloves slightly better at every level.

Awakening Scenes

Each Soul Stone has a one-time awakening scene that triggers when you visit the matching guide after acquiring the stone.

Stone Awakening Guide Location
Queenstone Seraph Future - Seraph's Sanctuary
Sword Stone Seraph Future - Seraph's Sanctuary
Aether Stone Seraph Future - Seraph's Sanctuary
Brute Stone Lillian Medieval - Lillian's Lair
Elemental Stone Lillian Medieval - Lillian's Lair
Twilight Stone Lillian Medieval - Lillian's Lair
Balance Stone Azariel Brothel - Secret Room
Phantom Stone Arestes Medieval - Hidden Chamber

Leveling Up - The Intimate Bonding System

Soul Stones do not level through combat experience. They level through bonds — and, once you can reach the Infinity Dungeon, through Theneas's upgrade service (below).

Configured NPCs offer an Intimate Bonding action when all of these are true:

  1. You own the related Soul Stone.
  2. Your relationship with that NPC is at in_love.
  3. You have not already used that NPC's bonding action today.

The action costs 60 minutes, has no money cost, and grants +1 level to the matching Soul Stone. It can be done once per day per NPC.

Soul Trainers

Current configured trainers:

Stone Trainers
Queenstone Blinky, Elara, Jade, Kasumi, Sophie
Sword Stone Muramasa, Valkyra
Brute Stone Jennifer, Yrsa
Balance Stone Azariel, Lilu
Elemental Stone Aziza, Lindia, Sashina
Twilight Stone Seraph, Kupie, Lillian
Aether Stone Nerida, Willow, Robin
Phantom Stone Arestes, Keira, Shadow

Twilight Stone, Aether Stone, and Phantom Stone are wired into mining acquisition, inventory display, save migration, passive effects, and awakening scenes. Twilight Stone can be leveled through Seraph, Kupie, and Lillian's repeatable Intimate Bonding actions. Aether Stone can be leveled through Nerida, Willow, and Robin's repeatable Intimate Bonding actions. Phantom Stone can be leveled through Arestes, Keira, and Shadow's repeatable Intimate Bonding actions.

Theneas's Soul Stone Upgrade Service

Theneas, the fox beastkin veteran at the Forest Hut in the medieval forest (available 24/7), offers a second, fully repeatable way to level every Soul Stone: trading Infinity Dungeon monster drops.

  • His Soul Stone Upgrade action opens a service screen listing all eight stones.
  • Each upgrade costs exactly three different Infinity Dungeon drops (one of each), raises that stone by +1 level, and takes no in-game time.
  • Every stone has its own fixed three-drop recipe drawn from the six drop types (Gilded Heart, Shimmering Heartscale, Soul Thread, Void-Touched Fang, Mutagenic Ichor, Abyssal Eye) — across all eight recipes, each drop type is used four times.
  • You must own the stone to upgrade it, and there is no daily limit — you can raise a stone as far as your drop stockpile allows.

This makes deep Infinity Dungeon runs the fastest bulk-leveling route once you're strong enough to farm drops, while Intimate Bonding remains the free daily drip.

Tips And Strategy

Use diamond pickaxes when hunting stones. Soul Stones are rare and durable, so diamond's 5 damage and bonus adjacent strike matter a lot.

Do not ignore cascades. Power-up chains deal 15 damage to multi-hit tiles, including Soul Stones, and can save dozens of direct clicks.

Plan bonding routes. Stones with multiple trainers can level much faster because each trainer has a separate once-per-day bonding cooldown.

Watch the new stat stones. Queenstone improves survivability, while Aether Stone improves Energy and Calm capacity. Together they make long dungeon, exploration, and action-heavy days more forgiving.
