Shadow — Complete Walkthrough

Guide noticeThis page contains gameplay and story spoilers and may describe mature systems.

Overview

Shadow is a 21-year-old master thief operating under complete anonymity in the Medieval Era. The townspeople know of "the thief" — a legendary burglar with a moral code who targets bad people — but they don't know her name, her face, or that she exists at all during the day. She stays hidden, she moves at night, and she has spent her entire adult life making sure no one ever connects the two halves of her existence.

Her arc is a guarded-professional-to-trusted-partner romance. The player notices what almost no one else can: the person behind the legend. Across three phases, Shadow moves from wary professional distance, to a reluctant guild arrangement, to grudging respect, and finally to genuine loyalty. She is one of the few characters in the game who exists in two systems at once: a standalone NPC with her own schedule across four medieval locations, and a recruitable brothel worker tied to the Thieves Guild questline.

  • Hair: Dark, styled to blend in with shadows
  • Eyes: Sharp, observant, constantly assessing surroundings
  • Height: 5'4"

The Discovery — Required Before Anything Else

Shadow does not appear at any of her locations until the player has discovered her.

Shadow in the Alleys (shadow_alley_discovery)

  • Auto-triggers when the player enters medieval_back_alleys between 10 PM – 2 AM
  • Requires: Perception 45+
  • Blocked after: shadow_discovered_alleys_flag is set
  • Plot choices: Reassure her (+20), Threaten her (+10), Respect her (+20)

Until this plot completes, Shadow is invisible across the entire game — she's not on her schedule, not in the alleys, not at the guild. The Perception gate ensures only players with sharp enough eyes even find her in the first place.

Where to Find Her — Nocturnal Schedule

Shadow is strictly nocturnal. Every one of her locations is gated on the discovery flag.

Location Hours Days
Medieval Thieves Guild 11 PM – midnight Odd days
Medieval Thieves Guild (continuation) midnight – 4 AM Even days
Medieval Back Alleys 10 PM – midnight Odd days
Medieval Hovel District (Demesne) midnight – 2 AM Odd days
Medieval Noble Quarter 9 PM – midnight Even days

Her schedule alternates between two cycles:

  • Odd days: Back Alleys → Thieves Guild → Hovel District (a working night)
  • Even days: Noble Quarter → Thieves Guild (a scouting night)

Daylight hours = unreachable. She's hiding.

Actions

Shadow's main interaction is Talk — available at all four locations but identical everywhere. Her skill-teaching actions are only at the Thieves Guild.

Action Location Time Cost Requirements Daily Limit Points
Talk to Shadow All 4 locations 10 min Stranger+ 3 each +1
Night Bazaar Thieves Guild / Back Alleys 120 min $60, −35 energy Friend+, 10 PM–midnight depending on location Once Date plot
Pickpocketing Lessons (one-time) Thieves Guild 30 min Known+, Communication 40+ 1 +10, +1 Rogue
Shadow Step (one-time) Thieves Guild 350 min −180 energy, −100 calm Romantic+, Ability 60+ 1 +30, teaches Shadow Step skill

Talk to Shadow

Her lowest-bar action. Available from Stranger stage at every location she visits. Daily limit 3 per location — technically up to 12/day if the player hits every location she visits across both day cycles. In practice, 3–6/day is typical.

Pickpocketing Lessons (One-Time Reward)

  • Requirements: Known stage + Communication 40
  • Effect: +1 permanent Rogue, +10 relationship points
  • Flag: shadow_pickpocket_lesson_completed
  • Response image: 9
  • Category: skills

Shadow Step — The Ultimate Escape Skill

  • Requirements: Romantic stage + Ability 60
  • Cost: 350 min (nearly 6 in-game hours), −180 energy, −100 calm
  • Effect: Teaches the Shadow Step skill — guaranteed flee from any non-boss fight
  • Triggers: shadow_shadow_step plot scene
  • Hidden after learned (via hidden_by_skills: ['Shadow Step'])

Shadow Step is one of the most powerful utility skills in the game. Guaranteed escape from any dungeon encounter that isn't a boss — no risk, no RNG. The Ability 60 requirement is steep. Worth the build.

Night Bazaar Date

This one-time date is available at Friend+ for $60, 120 minutes, and 35 energy. The Thieves Guild version starts from 11 PM to midnight; the Back Alleys version is available from 10 PM to midnight. Both share night_bazaar_shadow_completed.

Plots

Shadow has no standalone H2H conversations — her character development happens through five plot files and the Thieves Guild questline.

Plot Title Role
shadow_alley_discovery Shadow in the Alleys First meeting — auto-triggered, Perception-gated
shadow_shadow_step Shadow Step Teaches the ultimate escape skill at Romantic+
thieves_guild_shadow_rules Shadow's Rules Her terms for working with the Thieves Guild
vixen_shadow_guild_scheme The Arrangement Vixen and Shadow coordinate a guild scheme together
fernando_clothing_shadow Fernando's Creation - Shadow Custom outfit from the tailor

Thieves Guild Integration — The Recruitment Arc

Shadow is woven deep into the Thieves Guild faction questline. The "Seek" series of quests follows her trail across the guild's ranks, culminating in her intimate scene at the end.

  • Thieves Guild Seek 07 — "Shadow's Trail - The End"
    • Final quest in the Seek sequence
    • Requires thieves_guild_seek_06_completed
    • Contains her intimate video (shadow_intimate.webm) as a type: video scene inside the plot
    • Relationship reward: +10 Shadow, +5 Arestes
    • Clout reward: +1 Thieves Guild

Her intimate scene is not a standalone action — it plays as part of the quest narrative payoff. Complete the Thieves Guild Seek sequence to reach it.

Brothel Worker — Worker #8

Shadow is also recruitable as a brothel worker through the Vixen/guild-promise arrangement. Vixen uses Shadow's promise after the guild-gossip scheme to place her at the Rose & Thorn as both a night worker and a source of guild intelligence.

Worker Stats

Stat Value
Worker ID 8
Assigned Room Room 8
Minimum Room Level 2
Working Hours 8 PM – 4 AM (night shift)
Base Wage 90
Starting Loyalty 33 (terrified compliance)
Fame 4
Starting Skill Pickpocket
Special Skill Masturbating

Primary Stats

  • Stamina 18, Intelligence 26, Dexterity 35 (highest), Ability 10, Appearance 20, Charisma 12

Loyalty Behavior (V0.89+ Loyalty System)

  • Decay chance: 55% (high — she notices neglect)
  • Cascade chance: 35% (moderate — bad days compound)
  • Refuse chance: 60% (highest in the game at low loyalty — she'll absolutely walk out on clients)
  • Bonus chance: 10% (low — gratitude is not her default state)

Shadow is one of the hardest workers to keep happy. Her trust starts low and she remembers every missed visit. Gifting her, praising her, and keeping her loyalty up is essential — letting her slide means she refuses clients more often than anyone else.

Character Arc — Three Phases

From her character bible — Shadow moves through three distinct phases as the relationship deepens.

Phase 1 — Guarded Obligation (Early Game)

Loyalty: 33 (starting value) Mindset: "A deal is a deal. That does not mean I have to like it."

Professional honesty, fear of exposure, and reluctant obligation. She accepts the brothel arrangement because her word binds her, but trust has not arrived yet.

Phase 2 — Working Arrangement (Mid Game)

Loyalty: 50–65 Mindset: "This arrangement works better than I expected. He's smart about using my skills."

Growing professional respect. Her moral code aligns with the player's — she starts to see the arrangement as efficient rather than coerced. Begins teaching the player her thieving techniques. Uses brothel intelligence to pick appropriate theft targets.

Phase 3 — Trusted Partnership (Late Game)

Loyalty: 75–90 Mindset: "He protects my secret not from kindness, but from partnership. I can respect that."

Genuine loyalty. Professional equality. She acknowledges that both of them operate in gray areas and treats the relationship as a real partnership. Her word to the player is worth more than any treasure she could steal.

Image System

Shadow uses a 30-image set. Images scale with relationship stage, moving from guarded/wary early to complete trust at intimate.

Stage Standard / Conversation Images

Acknowledged 2, 3, 4 (slightly less guarded)
Known 3, 4, 5 (minimal recognition)
Acquaintance 4, 5, 6 (professional assessment)
Friend 5, 6, 7, 8 (grudging respect)
Close Friend 7, 8, 9, 10 (true partnership)
Crush 9, 10, 11, 12 (confident partnership)
Romantic 11, 12, 13, 14 (rare vulnerability)
Intimate / In Love 13, 14, 15 (complete trust)

Universal: happy [10, 11], annoyed [27, 28], surprised [17], thinking [6, 7, 8]

  1. Before meeting her: Build Perception to 45+. You cannot discover Shadow without it.
  2. 10 PM – 2 AM in the Back Alleys — auto-trigger the discovery plot. Choose Reassure or Respect for +20 relationship.
  3. Stranger → Acknowledged: Talk to Shadow at any of her locations. 10 min, +1 each, limit 3 per location.
  4. Known: Continue talking. Complete Pickpocketing Lessons (Communication 40+) for +10 rel + 1 Rogue.
  5. Acquaintance → Friend → Close Friend: Keep visiting. Her schedule rotates across odd/even days — plan nights around her locations.
  6. Work the Thieves Guild questline in parallel. The Seek series (01 → 07) gives relationship points along the way.
  7. Romantic + Ability 60+: Unlock Shadow Step skill — guaranteed flee from non-boss fights. Major utility reward.
  8. Thieves Guild Seek 07 — her intimate video plays inside this quest scene.
  9. Brothel recruitment — complete the Vixen/guild-promise arrangement, then begin building her loyalty as Worker #8 in Room 8.

Why Fleet Footed Matters

  • Her Special Skill — doubles all relationship points earned
  • Learn Fleet Footed early (Ability 18+) to multiply every Talk and plot reward
  • Combined with the Respect discovery choice (+20) and Pickpocketing Lessons (+10), early relationship building is fast once she's found

Writing Voice Notes

Shadow's dialogue is defined by:

  • Minimal words. She speaks in short, clipped sentences. Every word does work.
  • Professional framing. She talks about theft the way a craftsman talks about a trade — skill, pride, ethics. Not shame, not guilt.
  • Terrified compliance early, equal footing late. Phase 1 dialogue is deferential and fearful ("Please, I'll do anything"). Phase 3 dialogue is peer-to-peer ("We both operate in gray areas").
  • Honest about being a thief. She doesn't hide what she does from the player after she's caught. Her shame is about being known, not about what she is.
  • Terse humor. When she jokes, it's dry, two-word, and often at the player's expense once trust is built.
  • Paranoid physical tells. Constantly assesses the environment. Notices exits, footsteps, people approaching. Her dialogue frequently pauses for her to check something.
  • Romantic dialogue is rare and understated. She doesn't gush. A glance held too long, a sentence that trails off, silence that means something — that's her version of intimacy.
  • Never uses her name first. Other characters say "Shadow." She rarely introduces herself — when she does, it carries weight.

When writing Shadow: short sentences + professional pride + paranoid environmental awareness + terse humor + restraint as the default emotional register + name withheld or offered deliberately.

Tips & Notes

  • Perception 45+ is non-negotiable. No Perception = no discovery = no Shadow, ever.

  • Fleet Footed skill is essential — doubles every interaction. Learn it early.

  • She doesn't do gifts. Her favorite gift is literally "none" — standard gift actions are not part of her progression. Don't give her Flowers, they're her least favorite.

  • Her schedule is complex. Plan nights around odd/even day cycles and the 3-hour windows at each location.

  • Shadow Step (Romantic+) is one of the best utility skills in the game. Ability 60 is steep but the guaranteed-flee payoff is enormous.

  • Her intimate scene is inside Thieves Guild Seek 07 — progress the Thieves Guild faction questline to reach it.

  • Brothel recruitment is a separate pathway — her narrative at the brothel begins with the Vixen/guild-promise arrangement, not with romance. It can be pursued independently.

  • As a brothel worker, she's the highest refuse-chance worker in the game — 60% at low loyalty. Keep her visited and gifted or she will absolutely walk.

  • She has an enemy version — shadow_assassin variants appear in dungeon encounters.

  • Sirena Isle: She can join a resort vacation (paid content) and is available for the repeatable evening Sunset Walk H2H on the resort beach (5-8 PM).
