Investment System Guide
The Investment Planning office in Present Era → Downtown → Office Building → Investment Planning offers 50 businesses. Buy investment levels for passive income, then buy out a fully funded company to become its owner. The Broker job at the same location is a separate way to earn money and raise Commerce.
This guide covers the current prices, company acquisitions, risk, in-game daily earnings, and collection. Character story outcomes are left to the game.

Starting and Using the Portfolio

  1. Open Investment Planning and select an affordable business. Its tile shows the price of the next investment level.
  2. Purchase levels in order, from 1 through 5. Each purchase costs the displayed amount; Level 5's price is an additional purchase, not the total cost of reaching Level 5.
  3. Advance an in-game day, then reopen Investment Planning to calculate new earnings.
  4. Press COLLECT to transfer pending earnings into your Wealth. Leaving earnings pending does not reinvest them.
  5. At Level 5, the tile changes to BUYOUT. If you can afford it, select the tile and confirm the acquisition. It then displays ACQUIRED and increases Companies: …/50.
There is no sell or downgrade button in the current portfolio. Plan spending around money you can leave invested. Investment purchases themselves do not consume an hour or a work shift.

Investment Levels and Company Ownership

Each business has five investment levels plus a separate company ownership state. A Level 5 investment is not an acquired company.
Let S be the sum of that business's five listed level prices:
  • Nominal full investment stake: S.
  • Company buyout value: 15 × S.
  • Buyout cash price: that value, or 85% of it with Investment Savvy, rounded to the nearest dollar with halves rounded up.
  • Acquired-company income value: S + 15 × S = 16 × S.
Investment Savvy also discounts each level purchase by 15%. The income calculation and corporate valuation still use the undiscounted prices. Paying less does not reduce the income value of your investment.
Corporate valuation adds the undiscounted buyout values of acquired companies. Holdings adds both your nominal investment stakes and that corporate valuation. Neither figure is cash available for spending, and Holdings is not simply the sum you actually paid after discounts.
The Own Every Company objective checks actual acquisitions of all 50 companies. Funding all 50 investments to Level 5 does not complete it; the company counter must reach 50/50.

Coffee Shop Example

Coffee Shop's five prices are $50, $75, $110, $165, and $250:
  • Total nominal stake at Level 5: $650.
  • Daily base at Level 5: $13.
  • Buyout value: $9,750.
  • Buyout with Investment Savvy: $8,288.
  • Daily base after acquisition: $208.
  • Holdings contributed after acquisition: $10,400.
The $208 still goes through Coffee Shop's Low risk roll and then your portfolio bonuses. A buyout greatly raises the income base; it does not remove risk.

Daily Income Formula

The system uses the cumulative nominal prices of your currently purchased levels:
Daily base = round-half-up((nominal stake + acquired-company buyout value) ÷ 50).
Before acquisition, the second term is zero. A company with no purchased investment level contributes zero.
For each elapsed in-game day:
  1. Calculate each funded business's daily base.
  2. Roll its risk multiplier independently and round that business's payout to a whole dollar.
  3. Add the business payouts together.
  4. Multiply the portfolio total by 1 + raw Commerce ÷ 1,000, then round half up.
  5. With the verified Master Tier benefit, multiply that result by 1.05 and round half up again.
  6. Add the result to the pending collection amount.
Commerce 50 gives +5% to the portfolio; Commerce 100 gives +10%. This calculation uses stored Commerce, rather than equipment-modified Commerce. Broker wages use modified stats and are calculated separately.

Risk and Market Analysis

Risk rolls use a uniform multiplier over the listed range. The averages below are the averages of those multipliers before dollar rounding and portfolio bonuses.
Risk Normal multiplier Normal average With Market Analysis Average with skill
Low ×0.80–1.10 ×0.95 ×0.96–1.10 ×1.03
Medium ×0.60–1.40 ×1.00 ×0.72–1.40 ×1.06
High ×0.00–2.00 ×1.00 ×0.00–2.00 ×1.00
Market Analysis increases the lower bound by 20%, not every payout by 20%. High risk's lower bound is zero, and zero × 1.2 remains zero. The skill therefore does not improve High risk investment rolls.
Low risk has the smallest spread, but without Market Analysis its average multiplier is 0.95 rather than 1.00. Medium and High share a 1.00 average multiplier without the skill, with very different volatility. A High risk business can pay zero on a day; losses do not subtract from your stake.

What the Bottom Bar Means

Field Meaning
COLLECT Pending earnings ready to transfer into Wealth
Daily Sum of base daily incomes with Commerce; no risk roll, no risk-average adjustment, and no Master Tier +5%
Min/Max Portfolio risk bounds with Market Analysis and Commerce; excludes Master Tier +5%
Wealth Cash currently available
Holdings Nominal stakes plus undiscounted acquired-company values
Earned Total earnings already collected; pending money is not included
Companies Actual bought-out companies, out of 50
The displayed Daily figure is a reference base, not a guaranteed daily payment or a statistical expected return. Master Tier can also make an actual payout exceed the displayed unboosted upper bound.

Timing and Collection

Earnings follow in-game day changes. Leaving the game closed for real-world days does not accrue money by itself.
Opening Investment Planning calculates the difference between the current in-game day and the last calculated day. Each missed day receives its own business risk rolls. Reopening on the same day cannot generate the same earnings again, and COLLECT clears pending money after transferring it.
The catch-up calculation uses your current investment levels, ownership, Commerce, skills, and entitlement when it runs; it does not reconstruct historical daily builds. Normal play calculates pending days when you enter the screen, before you make new purchases there. Reopen the portfolio regularly to settle earnings at the build you intend to use.
Pending earnings have no interest-on-interest effect, expiry, or storage cap in this calculation. Only money you collect and spend on additional levels or acquisitions increases your holdings.

All 50 Businesses

Each price column is the additional cash price for that level before Investment Savvy. Full Stake is their sum. Buyout is a further payment after Level 5. The two daily columns are base income before risk, Commerce, and Master Tier.

Useful Skills and the Broker Job

Skill Portfolio effect Other effect here
Investment Savvy 15% discount on level purchases and company buyouts; nominal income values unchanged Helps cash go further when acquiring companies
Market Analysis Improves Low and Medium risk lower bounds as shown above Doubles Broker's base wage
Investment Savvy can be learned through Portia's apartment conversations or Arestes's skill lesson. Market Analysis is taught by Jade. Their character guides give the relationship gates and lesson costs. Skills need their own stat prerequisites: Intelligence 19 for Investment Savvy and Commerce 17 for Market Analysis.
Broker appears at Investment Planning with Commerce 30+, during 09:00–16:59. Each shift takes 60 minutes and 30 Energy, and has an 8% chance to raise Commerce by 1. It is not a proficiency-specific job.
Its base wage is an inclusive random integer between Charm + Communication and Commerce + Intelligence, with the endpoints swapped if needed, then Luck is added. Market Analysis doubles this amount. These are equipment-modified stats.
With all five stats at 50, both endpoints are 100: the wage is $150, or $300 with Market Analysis, before the separate job bonuses. The current job system then applies its Easy-mode wage bonus where applicable and adds its working-experience reward. These job benefits do not modify the investment risk formula above.

Planning and Troubleshooting

  • Buy affordable levels without exhausting the money needed for travel, lessons, and other objectives. Income derives from cumulative invested value; five tiny investments do not automatically outperform one larger stake.
  • Learn Investment Savvy before substantial purchases when practical. Its benefit also applies to the much larger buyout payments.
  • Market Analysis particularly helps a portfolio concentrated in Low and Medium risk. It still doubles Broker pay if your investments are High risk.
  • Compare a buyout's additional price and additional daily base. The nominal ratio is approximately 50 in-game days of base income, before risk, skill discounts, Commerce, Master Tier, and rounding; this is not a guaranteed payback date.

Accuracy Notes

Checked against the current investment data, purchase and buyout handlers, portfolio screen, day accrual, Broker action and wage calculation, and company-objective check on 4 October 2026. Prices and formulas refer to the workspace's current game code; an older public build may show different acquisition options.
