A Casual Beginner's Guide written by DanCave. Community contribution — thank you!

First things first: This is a harem game, centered around befriending and seducing most every female character you meet (though as a game in development not all characters have their arcs implemented yet). This game has a lot of stats, skills, options, minigames... You'll probably interact with all of it through normal gameplay. There are longer guides with detailed explanations of the mechanics behind everything you could come across, but this guide is just intended to get you started quickly with minimum confusion. It is not an ordered list of instructions to max out your numbers or minimize your time because that really just isn't necessary.

Character Creation

Proficiency defines your starting skills, starting stats, and unlocks a career path that becomes your best initial source of income. There is no wrong pick as every background is able to collect all of the in-game skills and buff all of the stats and play all of the songs and meet all of the girls. If this is your first playthrough it might be easier to get started with either Scholar (to more quickly develop a few early relationships), Player (to clearly see when NPCs have talked enough for the day), or Martial Artist (to start with combat skill).

It's tempting to spread your free stat points around and avoid a glaring weakness, but focusing on one strong stat can get at least one early goal out of your way. Again, there is no wrong choice because you can train most stats right away. Consider what your initial priorities and playstyle will be and pick one:

  • Early Money: Raising one of a few stats to 30 will unlock a better employment option in the Present Era (and save you time)
  • Early Story Beats: Higher Intelligence will unlock valuable skills (and employment) at the University, and help develop your relationship with Sonia and Dr Akira
  • Longer Days: Stamina increases the Energy you have to get things done before needing to sleep
  • Physical Combat: Higher Strength increases weapon damage, ending early fights faster
  • Magic Combat: Bringing your Mystic stat above 20 will allow you to learn Healing Touch and Elemental Magic attacks from Sashina, making early fights easy

After the Introduction

That is a lot to process... You probably feel an urgent need to go meet Sonia and start saving all of reality, but you've also got smaller steps to take. For now it's okay to explore your house a bit:

Explore your House

  • The Bedroom is where you'll Sleep (see the long grey Action button?) to restore your daily-ish Energy (the orange bar with a bed icon) when it is low. Shorter rests can help you adjust to a daily cycle when your Energy pool is still small.
  • Your Bedroom is also where you can Practice (another button!) the Proficiency you selected. Look at your Stats page (bottom left blue icon) before and after you train to see what specific effects this has.
  • The Living Room is the central hub for the house, connecting to other rooms with Action buttons.
  • The Kitchen is where you find an Action to use a Cooking skill that converts Ingredients into Food. Look through your Inventory (bag button in the bottom row) to find the Food (bread icon) and Ingredients (colorful herbs at the bottom left, below Materials and Fabrics) you already have. Preparing food in the Kitchen will often increase your Cooking stat, as well!
  • The Basement is an empty apartment that someone else could move into... Going down there opens the Action to Post Apartment Listing, which leads to a very short side quest and you making a lovely new friend.
  • The Attic is empty for now... Maybe someone will show up there around Valentine's Day?

What's Next?

You can leave the house using the Map icon in the bottom row. This is a sandbox game, so you have a lot of options and all of them will push you forward! Address your goals in whatever order you like, so just pick some things from the following list and start having fun.

  • Make Friends: The primary gameplay is to develop relationships with women you meet at map locations. Open the Map screen (map icon in the bottom row) and select a location to travel there. If you find someone try the Actions, especially the ones that develop your relationship (marked with a pink heart icon). With persistence over multiple visits you'll find the relationship improving and more Actions (some with special scenes) becoming available. You can pursue full relationships with Summer at the Beach, Emily at the Cafe, Dr Akira at the Hospital, Rachel at the University, Bella at the Library, and dozens of other characters across the three Eras. Each character has a different set of attribute preferences that can earn you more relationship points from each interaction, as well as a skill that can double those points!
Core Game Mechanic: Maxing out relationship points with an NPC requires a lot of interaction but will reward you with a Crystal, the most powerful currency. Lillian (in the Medieval Back Alley) and Seraph (in the Future Weather Station) can exchange one to extend the timeline of your game by ten days.
  • Training: While visiting locations you'll come across Actions (marked with blue icons) to train your stats and learn new skills. In the Uptown half of the Present Era visit the Gym to train Strength and Stamina, the Library to train Intelligence, the University Computer Lab to train Technology... It's generally good to pick up any skills you come across in case you need them later for either plot points or to impress an NPC. On the Map you'll see the Subway Station that allows travel Downtown where you can visit the Dance Studio to train Ability, the City Streets Dojo to learn Martial Arts and combat skills, the Bar to learn Alcohol Tolerance and train Charm...
  • Story Beats: You can visit Sonia in her lab at the University between 9am and 5pm, moving the plot forward. She will tell you where to go next... You'll soon have compelling motivation to develop your relationship with Sonia, so take this opportunity to Talk and help her with research. You can also learn the Research skill from her when you've got sufficient Intelligence stat and Relationship status. Nova will always remind you of what to do next in the Communications screen (radar icon in the bottom row).
  • Earning Money: Some locations offer Actions (marked with a purple icon) to work a short shift and make some money, as long as you have the required stat and/or skill. Stocking shelves at the Convenience Store by your house is available if your Stamina is at least 10, you can work as a Library Assistant with an Intelligence of at least 10, musicians can Busk on the Downtown City Streets, and Charm-based players can Distribute Flyers at the City Street. If you can't find a job you can always beg for change at the Subway Station. Better paying options open up as your stats grow higher... These funds pay for training and gifts that help move your relationships forward faster.
  • Resources and Caterpillars: In natural areas like parks and woods you'll often find Actions allowing you to gather Materials or Ingredients. Some of these Actions are clearly named something like "Forage for Ingredients" and others are less obvious like "Take a Nature Walk". Many of these Actions have a chance to increase your Perception stat.
Collect caterpillars you might see on the screen and you can return them to the Whispering Woods using the CMB System. Find time to do research (using the microscope button) there so that the caterpillars you return (using the green button) have a better chance at survival and reproduction; the larger this population gets the more Fabric you'll collect in the form of Moth Silk.
  • Tutorial Quests: Stressed by the Doomsday clock? Select the glowing icon (bottom center) to see the Tutorial Quests. These tasks will each reward you with Crystals that can push the timeline back by ten days (or be spent in other ways). You can actively use these Quests as a guide to learn more about the game or passively let them complete as you play.

Balanced Daily Cycle

  • Never Enough Hours in the Day: When you run low on energy either Rest in the Living Room to get more energy or Sleep in your Bedroom to restore all of your vitals. Sticking to a daily cycle will help you be awake when characters are available. Try not to Sleep when you're really hungry (bottom bar) or your Health bar will decrease before you wake up.
  • You're probably getting hungry! Depending on what consumable resources you're holding you can either eat Food directly from your Inventory, go to the Kitchen and turn Ingredients into a simple meal (which both satisfies hunger and becomes Food in your Inventory), visit the Convenience Store to buy snacks (which become Food in your Inventory), or buy breakfast at the Cafe (which satisfies hunger). Any of these options could become a daily habit depending on your playstyle — if you've got a lot of money it's quick to visit Emily at the Cafe, but if you prefer to forage for Ingredients it's efficient to develop your Cooking skills.
  • Investments: One of the Tutorial quests requires you to visit the Investment Planning in the Downtown Office Building and purchase three investments. The returns on any given investment will break even after 50 days, and reinvesting all of your returns every day offers exponential growth and shortens that to about 35 days. If you are obsessively consistent and reinvest everything for 230 days your account will grow to 1000 times your original investment! This can feel frustrating in the early stage but it wouldn't be unreasonable to play for more than 500 days, eventually leading to immense passive income when the cost of projects far exceeds what you can make from even the best-paying jobs. Of course, there will be times during those first 230 days where you'd need money for other things... It's tough to balance.
Most experienced players agree that having millions of dollars worth of investments is crucial to the mid- and end-game, so start early!

A well-planned in-game day in the Present Era could look something like:

Morning (6 AM – Noon)

  • Visit Dr. Akira at the Hospital
  • Hit the Gym to Train physical attributes
  • Visit the Library to Train your Intelligence

Afternoon (Noon – 6 PM)

  • Run a stat-appropriate job for income
  • Visit 1-2 romance NPCs for daily Talk / gift actions
  • Check the Investment Office to collect earnings / buy new investments

Evening (6 PM – 10 PM)

  • Evening-exclusive NPC visits (Jessie 7-10 PM for certain plots, etc.)
  • Bar minigames if flush with cash
  • Story Beat triggers that require evening times

Night (10 PM – Midnight)

  • Story Beats 6 and 10 (back alley, 10 PM-midnight)
  • Sleep in the Apartment to end the day

Intentional Time Travel

Following the Story Beats given to you by Nova (visible at the top of the Communications screen) will soon encourage you to visit either the Future Era or the Medieval Era. At first this is done using Action buttons in your Bedroom, but you'll soon unlock buttons in the top right of your screen to visit either era from any location.

Learn to Fight

The very early game is contained by two combat scenarios, one in the Downtown Back Alley that you're given by a Story Beat and another in the Wagon Crossroads before you're allowed to travel to the King's Demesne (aka medieval version of Downtown). While it is technically possible to fight without equipment or training you'll have a much easier time if you prepare a bit. No matter what proficiency you chose during character creation...

  • Buy Potions: Before fighting you'll want to buy a handful of Energy Drinks from Jennifer at the Present-Era Uptown Gym. You'll probably also want to buy Medicine from the Present-Era Hospital. Only these resources will be available mid-combat, and can quickly turn a near-win into an easy win.
  • Magic Combat: Visit Sashina in the Ancient Earth Shrine to develop your relationship and train your Mystic stat. Raising it to 15 allows her to teach you the Healing Touch self-heal skill, and raising Mystic to 20 allows her to teach you the crucial Elemental Magic offensive combat skill. These skills alone should make early fights easy, and allow you to delay training physical stats and fighting skills until you choose.
  • Physical Combat: Visit the Uptown Gym and train your Strength stat to increase the damage you can inflict (and your Stamina to increase your Health and Energy). You can learn Martial Arts skills from Lilu at the Present-Era Downtown City-Streets Dojo or from Muramasa at the Medieval-Era Training Grounds. You can buy a basic sword and armor from Lyra at her Medieval-Ear General Store. With a combination of stats and skills and gear you should be able to defeat early enemies; more will make combat easier, but less will let you get to the plot faster.

Explore the King's Demesne

Visit the blacksmith, follow Sashina's quest to build the brothel, and spend time in the Back Alleys! I'll write more soon...
