Overview

Mary Ann is the Present-era lepidopterist who manages the university's Butterfly Pavilion. Her current route includes caterpillar collection reviews, Researching training, seven automatic encounters, three linked heart-to-hearts, four dates, KTV/Night Club invitations and a one-time living-specimen gift. This guide explains progression while leaving her personal discoveries and shared story outcomes to the game.

Quick Stats

Attribute Value
Age / era / alignment 24 / Present / Good

Waterfall portrait Known+; 7 AM–2 PM on odd days, and 6–10 PM every day

Living-specimen gift Some Quiet to Grow, In Love, once; Hushbell Seeds
Favorite stats improve the shared relationship calculation; learned Researching doubles its multiplier. It also supplies two optional H2H responses. Unless marked direct or final, affection values below are base affection, rather than guaranteed final gains.
  1. Visit Butterfly Pavilion, 10 AM–5 PM on an even-numbered day, for The Butterfly Pavilion introduction. Kind is its highest affection reply.
  2. Use Talk to reach Known. Add Book, Flowers and Review Caterpillars at the pavilion. The waterfall also offers Book and Flowers during her available hours; their allowances and Talk are shared across locations.
  3. Complete The Species Count at Known. With Intelligence 35, learn Researching once at the pavilion.
  4. At Friend, complete Field Notes, at the pavilion 11 AM–5 PM on even days. With Perception 35, claim Field Observation once.
  5. At Friend, visit the waterfall 7 AM–3 PM on an odd day for The Waterfall Microclimate. This automatic scene's hours extend beyond her regular daytime portrait.
  6. Complete Christy's Zoo Date and Explore Market, then visit Farmers Market, 7 AM–5 PM, for Meet Christy's Cousin Mary Ann. Mary Ann's pavilion introduction must also be complete.
  7. At Close Friend, complete The Field Report at the pavilion. Separately, finish Chrysalis Window after Field Notes and The Waterfall Microclimate, using her waterfall portrait 8 AM–2 PM on an odd day.
  8. At Crush, finish Lantern Moths at the waterfall 6–10 PM, after The Field Report and Chrysalis Window. KTV/Night Club invitations also require Crush and The Field Report, independently of the final H2H.
  9. After Story Beat 55 and The Field Report, revisit the pavilion for The Record. After that scene and Lantern Moths, visit the waterfall 7 AM–2 PM on an odd day for The Next Survey.
  10. At In Love, 3,200 affection, request Some Quiet to Grow at the pavilion to receive Hushbell Seeds once.
The four dates are optional affection sources with their own requirements below. There is no required personal apartment or pregnancy sequence connecting these encounters.

Schedule and Daily Actions

Her waterfall portrait requires Known, 25 affection. Its morning window is 7 AM–2 PM on odd-numbered days; its evening window is 6–10 PM every day, including pavilion days. The pavilion portrait is 10 AM–5 PM on even days, without an affection prerequisite.
Action Requirement / location Configured cost Reward / daily allowance
Talk to Mary Ann Pavilion; or waterfall with Known portrait 20 minutes 1 actual base, five total daily
Give Book Known, either portrait 10 minutes; one Book 8 base, once daily
Give Flowers Known, either portrait 10 minutes; one Flowers 5 base, once daily
Review Caterpillars Known, pavilion 30 minutes; 6 Energy Collection-based base reward, once daily
Learn Researching Known; Intelligence 35; skill not already learned; pavilion 150 minutes; 35 Energy; 20 Calm Researching and 10 base affection, once
Field Observation Friend; Perception 35; pavilion 45 minutes Perception +1; 8 direct affection, once
Talk's action data contains a zero placeholder, but its handler awards 1 base affection. Pavilion and waterfall use the same Talk counter. Each gift type has its own allowance shared across both locations; the collection review has a separate pavilion allowance. The two gifts consume their corresponding inventory items.
Review Caterpillars uses your discovered-species collection, rather than live habitat population. With no logged species it gives 2 base affection. Otherwise it gives min(10, 3 + floor(discovered species / 5)): 3 for 1–4 species, 4 at 5, 5 at 10, and so on up to 10. Total specimen finds and the rarest specimen change her reaction text, rather than that reward formula.
Five talks plus both gifts and one review total 150 minutes and 6 Energy, consuming one Book and one Flowers, for 18 + the review reward base affection. This full pavilion allowance is available only on even days; waterfall visits provide Talk and both shared gifts, while collection reviews remain pavilion actions.
Beyond a daily allowance, these handlers submit a negative base reward. Shared over-limit checks apply escalating penalties up to 5 points per failed attempt; extra attempts are not reliable positive affection.
Field Observation is processed by the shared one-time reward handler. Its action metadata lists Energy/Calm effects, but that handler grants the stat, adds 8 direct affection and charges 45 minutes without applying those listed Energy/Calm deductions. Learning Researching uses the skill-learning costs shown above.

Automatic Route and Christy's Connection

All seven encounters below are once-only automatic location visits. They have no configured action time, money or item cost. Their fixed rewards are supplemented by dialogue choices.
Automatic scene Location Requirements Base reward
The Butterfly Pavilion Butterfly Pavilion No additional prerequisite; 10 AM–5 PM; even 1
Meet Christy's Cousin Mary Ann Farmers Market Zoo Date with Christy completed; Explore the Farmers Market with Christy completed; The Butterfly Pavilion completed; 7 AM–5 PM 2
The Species Count Butterfly Pavilion Mary Ann: Known+; The Butterfly Pavilion completed; 10 AM–5 PM; even 6
The Waterfall Microclimate Hidden Waterfall Mary Ann: Friend+; The Species Count completed; 7 AM–3 PM; odd 8

Highest Affection Choices

Scene Highest choice sequence Fixed + choices, best base total
The Butterfly Pavilion Kind +3 1 + 3 = 4
The Species Count Caring or Flirty +4 → Caring or Flirty +5 6 + 4 + 5 = 15
The Waterfall Microclimate Caring or Flirty +4 → Caring or Flirty +6 8 + 4 + 6 = 18
Meet Christy's Cousin Mary Ann Funny +4 → Caring +4 2 + 4 + 4 = 10 for Mary Ann
The Field Report Caring or Flirty +5 → Caring or Flirty +6 10 + 5 + 6 = 21
The Record Caring or Flirty +5 → Caring or Flirty +6 10 + 5 + 6 = 21
The Next Survey Caring or Flirty +5 → Caring or Flirty +6 10 + 5 + 6 = 21
In the cousin introduction, that best Mary Ann sequence gives Christy 3 fixed + 1 + 4 = 8 base affection. A different first reply can favor Christy; the choices do not block the shared continuation.
For the introduction's prerequisites, Christy's Zoo Date and Explore Market both start from her Farmers Market portrait, 7 AM–5 PM, at Acquaintance. Zoo Date costs 120 minutes and $100; Explore Market costs 90 minutes. See Christy's guide for their full date details.
The Field Report requires both the cousin introduction and The Waterfall Microclimate; completing only Mary Ann's personal H2Hs is insufficient. The Record requires Story Beat 55 but has no extra current affection gate in its trigger. The Next Survey requires The Record and the actual Lantern Moths H2H completion, not a date or generic romance stage.

Heart-to-Hearts

Each H2H completes once. The current route checks the completed-conversation list directly; there is no extra requirement to set an older duplicate H2H plot flag.
H2H Requirement Actual portrait/start window Cost Best ordinary / special base total
Field Notes Friend; The Species Count Pavilion, 11 AM–5 PM on even days 60 minutes; 15 Energy 56 / 58
Chrysalis Window Close Friend; The Waterfall Microclimate; Field Notes complete Waterfall, 8 AM–2 PM on odd days 75 minutes; 20 Energy 69 / 71
Lantern Moths Crush; The Field Report; Chrysalis Window complete Waterfall, 6–10 PM every day 90 minutes; 20 Energy; restores 5 Calm 84 / 86
Chrysalis Window's action permits a start until 3 PM, but her daytime portrait leaves at 2 PM; the practical portrait window is therefore 8 AM–2 PM. The automatic Waterfall Microclimate scene has its own 7 AM–3 PM trigger and does not share that portrait restriction.
Each H2H has an optional round 2 response worth two more base points: Researching in Field Notes (15 instead of 13), Perception 45 in Chrysalis Window (18 instead of 16), and Researching in Lantern Moths (21 instead of 19). Missing a special response does not prevent completion or the next route unlock.
Learned Romantic adds 25 final affection at each H2H completion. Mary Ann's current route removes the older duplicate completion callbacks; there is no extra completion affection to add beyond the choice total and that shared bonus. Field Notes and Chrysalis Window have no configured NPC intimacy reward. Lantern Moths records 5 NPC intimacy experience for kissing in round 4. None of the three H2Hs awards player Erotic experience.

Field Notes

Chrysalis Window

Round Highest base-point choice Base points

Heart-to-heart choice points accumulate and use the shared relationship calculation at completion. The listed points are base values, not guaranteed final affection gains.

Dates

All four dates are once-only pavilion portrait actions, so their practical days are even-numbered days. Each has an independent completion flag; doing one does not consume another date's availability. Costs below are configured starting costs before applicable player modifiers.
Date Requirement / starting hours Cost Best base affection
Fair Date Friend; 11 AM–3 PM 120 minutes; $150; 45 Energy 8 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 26
Boardwalk Daytime Date Close Friend; Diane's boardwalk built; paid version and Higher Power requirement; 11 AM–3 PM 60 minutes; $50; 30 Energy 10 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 25
Zoo Date Close Friend; The Field Report complete; 10 AM–4 PM 120 minutes; $120; 40 Energy 10 + 5 + 5 + 6 = 26
Win Her a Prize Friend; one Voucher; 12 noon–5 PM practical window 120 minutes; one Voucher; no configured money/Energy cost 5 + 5 + 5 + 4 = 19
Fair, Boardwalk and Zoo each award their highest bonuses with Sweet or Flirty at every choice. Win Her a Prize uses Flirty +5 → Caring +5 → Funny or Flirty +4. Its action permits starts until 6 PM, but the pavilion portrait leaves at 5 PM.
Only Boardwalk adds the paid-version and Higher Power requirements. The other three dates do not carry those requirements. The voucher date has a generic block-pregnant policy, although Mary Ann has no configured personal pregnancy route. None of the four dates has a configured NPC intimacy / player Erotic experience reward.
Scene Highest base bonuses, in choice order
Boardwalk Daytime with Mary Ann Sweet/Flirty +5 → Sweet/Flirty +5 → Sweet/Flirty +5
Fair Date with Mary Ann Sweet/Flirty +6 → Sweet/Flirty +6 → Sweet/Flirty +6
Zoo Date with Mary Ann Sweet/Flirty +5 → Sweet/Flirty +5 → Sweet/Flirty +6
Win Mary Ann a Prize at the Fair Flirty +5 → Caring +5 → Funny/Flirty +4

KTV and Night Club Invitations

Invite Mary Ann from the venue's Invite Date menu, rather than her pavilion/waterfall portrait. Both require Crush or higher and The Field Report complete, with starts 8–11 PM. There is no additional prior personal date or Lantern Moths requirement. The Night Club menu also uses the game's recent-supporter access requirement.
Venue Configured entry cost Available questions Daily allowance
KTV 120 minutes; $150; 40 Energy Eight, five selected One invitation at that venue daily across its roster
Night Club 120 minutes; $100; 30 Energy Eight, five selected Separate one-at-that-venue daily allowance
Time Potion halves invitation time; Power Potion halves its Energy cost. There are five different questions selected without replacement, and answer positions shuffle. Mary Ann's current pools have no extra per-question story-flag requirements. Use the wording below, rather than memorizing button positions.
Both venues offer Book, Flowers or Chocolate as the invitation gift. Giving one consumes the item and adds one score point; No Gift adds zero. This is independent of her ordinary pavilion gifts. Five correct answers plus a gift make the maximum six; all five correct without a gift score only five.
Final score Ending reward
Below 4 20 base affection, early departure
4–5 40 base affection; NPC intimacy +5, kissing
6 60 base affection; NPC intimacy +30, kissing and missionary
Both perfect endings have an authored hotel loop movie, verified in the current image folders. Their old placeholder animation metadata does not add a separate reward or suppress the existing reward movie. Invitations do not award a configured player Erotic experience bonus. Completing a venue invitation records its daily use even if the final score is low.

KTV Answers

Question / cue Correct answer
I keep calling this KTV room a controlled sound habitat. What do you think I mean? It is private enough to explore something loud without being overwhelmed by strangers.
Why did I promise not to bring a notebook and then mentally bring one anyway? Because noticing patterns is how you relax into a place.
What kind of song helps me sing instead of hiding behind the catalog? Something gentle and warm enough that mistakes feel safe.
I miss a note and start laughing into my hand. What should you do? Laugh with her and keep singing so the moment stays light.
What is the correct stance on my hat in a karaoke room? The hat is part of the Mary Ann package.
If I compare this room to the quiet near a waterfall, what am I really noticing? Patterns. Different sounds, different lights, but the same instinct to understand a place.
I point to a duet and whisper, "Is this too much?" What should you say? Not if you do it together.
At the end, if I ask whether I did okay as a karaoke organism, what do I need to hear? You were wonderful because you stayed yourself.

Night Club Answers

Question / cue Correct answer
Mary Ann looks up at the moving lights. "Those are basically giant urban moth traps, right? Beautiful, irresponsible, emotionally persuasive moth traps." Tell her the lights are part of tonight's strange little ecosystem.
She smooths her outfit, cheeks warming. "I tried to look like me, but also like someone who knows what a bouncer is." Tell her she looks beautiful and unmistakably Mary Ann.
At the bar, Mary Ann squints at a glowing cocktail. "This drink has layers. Like warning coloration. Or a habitat diagram with rum." Pick something pretty but mild so she can enjoy it and keep her balance.
The dance floor opens in front of you. Mary Ann laughs nervously. "I hike, climb rocks, chase caterpillars, and somehow this is the movement that scares me." Start with small steps at the edge and let her find the rhythm.
The music peaks, lights flashing fast. Mary Ann's smile wobbles. "I think my entire nervous system just became a startled glasswing." Guide her to a quieter corner before she has to ask.
Someone compliments Mary Ann's hat as they pass. She blinks, then beams. "See? Practical headwear has range." Agree that the hat is iconic and so is she.
In a booth away from the speakers, Mary Ann watches dancers move through neon. "It is not quiet like the waterfall. But there are patterns. Little paths. People orbiting light." Tell her the way she sees the room is beautiful.
Near the exit, Mary Ann squeezes your hand. "Did I do okay? As a nightclub organism?" Tell her she was wonderful because she stayed herself.

Some Quiet to Grow — Hushbell Seeds

At In Love, 3,200 affection, after The Butterfly Pavilion introduction, visit the pavilion 10 AM–5 PM on an even day and request Some Quiet to Grow. This once-only shared medicine-source action costs 20 minutes, with no configured money, Energy, Calm or material cost.
The gift requires that Hushbell Seeds remain eligible to be collected, and Mary Ann be present and not away. Caring or Funny gives 3 base affection; Flirty gives 2. There is no additional fixed affection reward. Completion grants the Hushbell Seeds key item once.
The seeds belong to Willow's medicine progression. Receiving them from Mary Ann does not itself raise Medicine; Willow's hand-in does. This gift does not require The Field Report, the later story scenes, a completed H2H, an invitation date or an apartment visit beyond the stated introduction and In Love gates.

Route Troubleshooting

If Mary Ann is missing, check the game day's parity, her location and Known for the waterfall. At the pavilion she is present only on even days. At the waterfall her evening visit is available every day, while morning visits are odd days only.
If The Field Report or venue invitations are missing, verify both The Waterfall Microclimate and the cousin introduction. The cousin introduction requires Christy's Zoo Date, Explore Market and Mary Ann's pavilion introduction. This is a shared completion chain, rather than a demand for a specific caterpillar count or review score.
If The Next Survey is missing, check Story Beat 55 → The Record, plus Lantern Moths completed, then visit the waterfall 7 AM–2 PM on an odd day. If Chrysalis Window is missing, verify Field Notes and the microclimate scene, and start before the morning portrait leaves at 2 PM.
Mary Ann has no configured apartment visit, pregnancy route, Kupie album, Christmas scene, brothel-worker training, maid cleaning progression or personal resort vacation. The route above covers her current authored content.
